Elected Mayor officially opens our new Learning Resource Centre
29 June 2016
The Elected Mayor for North Tyneside, Norma Redfearn has officially unveiled our fantastic new Learning Resource Centre (LRC).
We were delighted to welcome her into school to cut the ribbon on the LRC, which features the latest IT equipment, teaching screens, library facilities and social, breakout areas.
We love our LRC. It’s been stylishly designed with comfy, modern seating and cool mood lighting to encourage pupils to use the area for informal learning, reading and quiet socialising during the school lunch break.
The centre is also used for teaching and guided study during the school day.
The Elected Mayor said she was delighted to be asked to open the LRC and was really impressed by it. She said: “This is a fantastic learning space. It’s light, modern, fresh and I can see why pupils are so proud of it and keen to use it during lessons and break time. Facilities like this encourage and inspire our children to learn, and I know this new Learning Resource Centre is going to be very well used in the months and years to come. You really deserve this."
The creation of our new Learning Resource Centre is part of an extensive plan of work to drive forward change and improvement at Norham High School.
Executive Headteacher, David Baldwin said: “Norham is changing and this new Learning Resource Centre is just one of the big differences we’ve made here in recent months.
“We wanted to offer an area that would really inspire our pupils, and I believe we’ve done just that. Its popularity tells us we’ve created something our pupils simply love and it’s a delight to come into this area and see it bustling with pupils reading, working or just quietly chatting. Our pupils were closely involved in the design and we’re all very proud of what we’ve achieved.”
Year 7 pupil Jenna Sams added: “We are so lucky to have such an amazing learning space. Everyone thinks it is brilliant and it’s a lovely environment to work in as well as hold our weekly book clubs."
Following the official opening, the Elected Mayor enjoyed a guided tour of Norham High School to see more of the latest changes.
The work to create the Learning Resource Centre involved the refurbishment of an existing part of the school building and has been supported by North Tyneside Council.
